Please remember:

My yoga, yoga therapy and wellbeing coaching services are not a replacement for physical and mental healthcare or your own wisdom. They are a complement to these, and I take a collaborative approach to whole-person wellbeing. This means I can work in conjunction with and in support of your other chosen health partners and you!

A whole-person approach to wellbeing

Yoga Where U R Planted looks at your health and wellness from a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective. (Don’t worry, spiritual doesn’t mean religious, though it can, if that is your preference.) Drawing upon diverse training and modalities, we explore how breath, movement, reflection, light-heartedness and savoring, restorative and mindfulness practices can safely fit into your unique life.

Want to learn more about the services at YWURP?

Our work would in no way be a replacement for needed medical or psychological care, so please prioritize your emotional, mental and physical safety and consider seeking guidance and proper support from the appropriate professionals first or concurrently, if needed. We can discuss this more during our intake and discovery process.

Signs You Could Benefit from Nervous System Nourishing & Trauma-Informed Wellness Practices

  • Have you experienced high, intense or chronic/prolonged stress?

  • Would you like to improve your connection with your body, breath, or self in general? Explore opportunities for mindfulness in your daily life? See how yogic modalities could complement your other health initiatives?

  • Does thinking about going to a studio, being in public, putting on your smile, being overstimulated with no exit or just getting up the courage to go out of your comfort zone today deter you from wellness practices?

  • Would you like to be able to truly experience the moment before you without feeling like you're floating away or completely disconnected?

  • Maybe you have a creative project to share with the world

  • Do you sometimes resist fulfilling your needs, even just having a rest, getting water, or taking tangible and available action toward self-care and your goals?

  • Are your self-talk and self-expectations steeped in shame, anxiety, perfectionism, overachieving, low self-worth and self-deprecation?

  • Is your relationship to movement, yourself and your daily life pervaded by unnecessary striving, “ no-pain-no-gain mentality,” manufactured urgency and excessive achieving?

  • Do you have a history of trauma, complex trauma, or disordered dissociation?

  • Are you ready to feel less on-edge, overwhelmed, reactive or hypervigilant? To spend less valuable time and energy stuck in thought loops, fears, self-doubt, an inability to concentrate or just numbed out to get through?

  • Do you or have you experienced disordered eating or negative body image? Or perhaps you’re currently experiencing regular overwhelm and stress and a complicated relationship with nourishment and/or your physicality?

You can begin to gravitate towards...more.

Somatically-based activities and mindset work have been proven as an effective pathway in regulating and toning your nervous system and can pair well with or following more traditional medical or psychological support for a variety of conditions and general wellness, if needed.

You can develop these tools for you and take them wherever you go.
They will be yours. They won't be just a bunch of words or postures. They will be concrete practices that you can tap into where you are. Now and in the future. You can begin to feel capable and at ease with them, modifying them to your choice and your needs.

You can begin to embody a new life, out of immobilization or over-activity, into the deliciousness of now. What you make of it. free from the past. Out of fear, scarcity, into your chosen future.

Yoga, Yoga Therapy & Wellness Practices

  • With tools and resources to become aware of and interrupt the effects of restrictive or emotional eating patterns & diet culture messages

  • Transcending pervasive negative body image or low self-concept

  • Choosing something other than perfectionism or over-achieving…yet seeing your choices and your future align with your true goals

  • “Our loops and patterns of fear are neurologically based…They are most effectively dealt with via the breath and movement—our primary connections to the nervous system.”
    ~Beth Spindler

What Collaborating on Your Wellness Could Look Like…

  • Moving towards intentional living, self-actualization, contentment and present moment awareness.

  • Even though the main and most serious symptoms of prolonged or overwhelming stress, accumulated trauma, complex trauma, body dysmorphia, negative body image, restrictive or emotional eating patterns or general low self-concept may have subsided through your work in therapy, medical treatment or personal growth, the mentality and accompanying physical manifestations and conditions can linger.

  • High stress, self-criticism, rumination, self-harm, self-neglect and (T)traumas can be deeply rooted in your mind, in your way of being, but also within your body and its systems. In conjunction with or following therapeutic support or personal work, your body can be a powerful pathway and an integral part in finding balance. Yoga Where U R Planted seeks to enrich your other treatments with complementary yogic tools.

  • Guiding you in a co-discovery of practices, resources and philosophical concepts that apply to your unique situation. The goal: empowering you with ways to practice (and thereby support your overall ability to):

    — Notice your internal signals

    — Make decisions based upon them.

    — Build a self-wellness kit of practices that you can adapt to your needs throughout your journey

    — Discover practical self-care and self-tending opportunities in your daily life

    — Cultivate self-neutrality & self-compassion, functional appreciation for your whole self

    — Explore the idea of tolerable pleasure

    — Look at your core values, core beliefs, intentions and goals both on the mat and via self-inquiry and learning

    — Embodying empowerment, self-actualization and Self

    — Key Areas of Focus: Connect to your Self, sub-clinical disassociation, over-achieving and constant activity, destructive self-talk/self-image, perfectionism, disordered eating mentalities and nervous system dysregulation.

    — Choice, collaboration and freedom from stifling timeframe- or outcome-focused thinking are key.

Can be a part of a care team for those currently experiencing clinical mental or physical health concerns after intake and if your current care provider(s) also thinks this may be beneficial for you.

  • With various techniques to encourage embodiment and present moment awareness when safe, we will begin to work on reframing behaviors and ways of relating to your body, movement and your experience of choice in these areas. We will seek to cultivate body and self-neutrality and plant seeds for self-compassion, when you're ready. We will explore how to translate your new awareness of your body-mind into choices based upon your wants and needs that lead you to a more agentic experience of life. You will be offered opportunities to learn more about your nervous system and body, where relevant. This embodied, somatically-informed, self-compassionate foundation will begin to flow out - soothing your nervous system, other related body systems, affecting other areas of your life.

  • Breaking free from crippling self-doubt, self-deprecation, tacit forms of self-harm. Appreciating your capabilities. Embracing your possibilities, your true values, needs. Caring for yourself so you can offer your gifts to the world.

  • “And the day came when the risk of remaining tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anaïs Nin
