Trauma-Sensitive,
Trauma-Informed and Therapeutic Yoga

For those that would benefit from a therapeutic approach to yogic practice.

Do you have a health condition or are you recovering from an injury or physically demanding experience?

Have you recently experienced a traumatic event - including physical trauma?

Have you recently or do you currently experience flashbacks or unwanted disassociation?

Do you experience an active eating disorder or body dysmorphia?

Do you experience situation or persistent anxiety?

It is not recommended that anyone in an acute or clinical state pursue yoga that is not personalized to their needs.

If and when you and your physical and/or mental healthcare partner(s) agree that it is safe enough and beneficial for you, pursuing yoga therapy or trauma-sensitive yoga in tandem and in support of the other modalities you are exploring can affect powerful results.

  • Yoga Therapy

Practices and resources remain therapeutic at all times and very carefully take into consideration any possible contraindications on a bio-psycho-social-spiritual level, as some seeking yoga therapy may be recovering or in the midst of wellness challenges. That said, yoga therapy can also be experienced as a more general self-care measure to maintain and modulate wellness on all koshic levels (ie all levels of your existence from a yoga philosophy perspective). Yoga philosophy and more educational discussions may figure into our work in yoga therapy, as can working in partnership to navigate the complex networks of any mental or physical health challenges you may be facing.

  • Trauma-Informed Yoga

A trauma-informed (TI) lens is at the heart of all YWURP offerings. TI yoga applies a framework and toolset to support participants who may have experienced prolonged or high stress and/or trauma. It offers more flexibility in terms of practices, languaging and other factors and is less therapeutic than trauma-sensitive yoga.

People sometimes assume that "trauma" doesn't apply to them. Trauma is defined as anything that overwhelmed your ability to cope. It can involve feelings of a loss of power, hopelessness, fear of one's life, overwhelming stress or a loss of connection to social ties and relationships that are vital for mental health and development.

  • Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is a well-researched and rigorously regulated yoga modality that is created for use with people who have experienced incidence traumas, complex trauma and systemic trauma.

TCTSY uses a very specific method to over time scaffold participants' interoception, choice making, sense of agency and experience of embodiment.

This is an excellent approach for anyone that has lived experience of trauma or overwhelming stress and it is currently regularly affecting their experience. To learn if TCTSY may be right for you please schedule a Free Consult!

Yoga Therapy and Trauma-Informed and Sensitive Yoga can work as a complement to other health and wellness partners for those that would benefit from a more therapeutic or trauma-sensitive approach.

Drawing upon the wisdom from you and your other chosen health partners to support you in an acute or recovery state - like a mental and/or physical healthcare support team - you can incorporate the personalized and relationship-centered approach of yoga therapy or trauma sensitive yoga.
