Yoga Therapy Sessions

Yoga therapy can complement care of a variety of conditions as well as general overall wellbeing. It provides a comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach, taking into account all the facets of you in finding ways to support you on your journey via connection, conversation and facilitation of implementing routines and practices including movement, breathing, contemplation, restoration and rest, mindfulness, learning and more.

Via a detailed intake and physical and breathing inquiry as well as regular check-ins during sessions, a yoga therapist is able to maintain a whole-person view, assisting you in navigating life and any other wellbeing partnerships you may have.

The spiritual aspects of yoga therapy can be adapted to respect and honor your personal spiritual or religious preferences and traditions. It speaks to finding connection in things outside of oneself or 1:1 interpersonal relationships. So, in the context of yoga therapy, spiritual can be expressed in a variety of ways for different people, including by connecting with nature, some mindfulness and meditation practices, service-based activities like volunteering and much more.

Yoga therapy is not a replacement for mental or physical healthcare, but rather works in collaboration with you and your other wellbeing partners.

Yoga therapists do not diagnose or directly treat mental and physical health conditions, rather they provide complementary care and help you with referrals when necessary.

What to Expect from Yoga Therapy…

The Intake Session is conversational in style, and after gathering information about you, our next session, the Physical and Breathing Inquiry, will involve movement and breath.

In this second session, we will go through a series of adapted physical forms and movements to understand your current posture, mobility, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, any injuries or areas of pain and joint health. We will also become curious about your breathing patterns during natural posture, movement and rest.

REMEMBER: the essence of yoga therapy is individuality. It is not about any perceived hierarchical assumptions about skill level or performative yoga ability. It is truly about understanding your unique self, here and now, so that we can design safe and beneficial yoga therapy sessions that promote your overall wellbeing and honor your intentions.

After our first two meetings, we will co-create some intentions for your next sessions. These intentions and the practices that unfold from them can continue to be adapted throughout our time together. I'll be regularly checking in with you to understand how you find the practices, if you'd like to pivot and to check alignment with your energy levels and anything you may be coming in with that session specifically (colds, injuries, emotional/mental issues, etc.).

Afterwards, clients choose a package of 3 hours of sessions, 6 hours of sessions or 12 hours of sessions.

Yoga therapy sessions can range from 30, 60 or 90 minutes, and the length is up to you.

Participants may come in for sessions once or twice a week or fortnightly depending upon the length of their sessions, their needs and intentions and other factors like availability.

Scholarships & Sliding Scale

Some complete scholarships and a sliding scale are available for those that are interested in being a case study participant for my submission to become certified with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).

This requires committing to a 7-session package (which includes your Intake, Physical & Breath Inquiry and then 5 Yoga Therapy Sessions) within a 6-8 week timeframe (meaning that sessions would be about once a week, and possibly two could be the same week, notably the first two onboarding sessions).

If you're interested, please schedule your FREE 60-to-75-minute Intake below. We can discuss scholarship opportunities at the end.

If you're not sure, schedule a free 25-min initial consult to ask more questions and determine if this is right for you.

How to Begin

Teamwork Makes Yoga Therapy Work…

  • Our collaboration begins with a one-hour to 75-minute Zoom call. We will get to know each other, discuss any relevant history to help us co-create safe and beneficial yoga therapy sessions for you, go over your goals and reasons for coming to yoga therapy and talk about the practicalities of yoga therapy sessions.

  • I will begin to assess how yoga therapy could fit in with your needs through some targeted questions and discussion, and we'll have time for any questions you may have.

  • At the end of this first meeting, we will schedule your physical and breathing assessment (or you can schedule them both below before coming in the first time!). After our initial consult, I will take some time to synthesize my notes and impressions, and may reach out in between our assessment session with additional questions or initial resources.

  • Once you've onboarded as a client, you will be given a link to purchase session packages which will give you a code to schedule sessions according to your availability. We can also schedule sessions at the end of each time we meet!

What will we go over in your intake? Topics ranging from: your health history, sleep and other nourishment patterns, general energy and activity levels, work and social factors, environment, sources of stress and joy, a pain assessment (if relevant), information about other concurrent treatments with mental or physical health partners (if relevant), any referrals (if needed).

This session is more like a conversation, so you do not need to be in a space set up for movement.

(Please make sure to ensure the time zone listed corresponds to your current location. I am based in Central European Time, but seek to provide weekly availabilities that are feasible for times zones in the Western and Eastern Hemispheres.)

Like be schedule things in advance? You can book your Intake and Physical and Breath Inquiry Sessions at once. They can even be during the same week, but I wouldn't recommend doing them in one day.
